David W. Mariani, Principal

Mr. Mariani has a broad background that includes finance, real estate development, investment banking and the operation of family agricultural businesses both nationally and internationally. Mariani's career highlights include serving on 27 different corporate, industry, agency and public boards. He served as chairman of the Presidio School of Management; chairman of American Western Banker; chairman of the Board of California Security Bank (FDIC insured), of which he was the majority owner; and chairman and managing partner of SEC-registered Glenborough MLP, a real estate firm he helped found in 1986, which became a REIT and sold to Morgan Stanley in 2006 for $1.9 billion.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Mariani was the chief financial officer of his family's agri-business interests, managing 32 operating companies on three continents. Over the past 35 years, he has developed and subsequently managed for his own account over 5 million square feet of commercial real estate, and numerous residential developments. Mariani earned his BA from the University of San Francisco, and did undergraduate and postgraduate work at Santa Clara University.

Richard Ferrell, Principal

Mr. Ferrell is business professional with over 37 years of experience in real estate, real estate finance and related securities matters. After ten years of active, hands on participation in the real estate development industry as a principal in the 1970s, Mr. Ferrell became one of the first real estate finance and development executives in the nation involved in resolving the Savings and Loan banking crisis that plagued the U.S. in the 1980s. Ferrell served as Senior Executive Vice President of American Savings in charge of its Real Estate Asset Management, with troubled assets and loans of $35 billion. While with American Savings, Ferrell was responsible for a portfolio of three billion dollars of its problem assets, including REO properties, JVs, and direct investments.
Ferrell also has substantial forensic experience with the U.S. Department of Labor, Department of Justice and he is well known nationally in financial forensic circles, with a reputation for professionalism and integrity.
Mr. Ferrell has a well-established network of financial industry contacts which are well suited for investment banking work and sophisticated financial engineering and restructuring transactions.

Mr. Trant has approximately 30 years in the real estate industry. Prior to joining Mariani Capital Group, and during 2006-2008, Trant served as President of Bedrock Land Development Company, a subsidiary of PICO Holdings, Inc. In that capacity he sourced and assisted in the acquisition of a new subsidiary company to acquire troubled residential real property in the Central Valley of California, with over 1600 residential lots under development. Prior to 2006, for over 27 years Trant was a senior real estate partner at DLA Piper, a prominent global law firm, with a preeminent real estate practice. Mr. Trant has substantial expertise in acquisitions, joint ventures, land banking, entitlements, fund formation and construction both on a national scale and globally. He has a substantial network nationally among real estate professionals and he is sought after for his ability to structure complex transactions and render business advice in combination with legal advice. He has assisted with major land acquisitions, such as 1.4 million acres in Nevada, the renovation of the Port of Oakland and several billion dollars in land banking and joint ventures with such prominent companies as Citigroup, JE Roberts, Brookfield Homes, Barclays Bank and Centex Homes. He has also taken lead in implementing numerous international joint ventures and construction projects, involving Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, Australia and Germany.
Trant earned his B.A. from the University of California Davis, with High Honors. He graduated Cum Laude from Cornell Law School and was honored with a clerkship appointment to the Appellate Division, 4th Department New York State.

Greg S. Wolfson, Affiliate

Mr. Wolfson has 20 years experience developing, marketing and selling high technology products in the semiconductor and communications indust ries where he worked for Intel and Broadcom in a variety of technical, marketing and management capacities. He has a proven track record of evangelizing and commercializing technology products in the network and telecommunications communications domains.
Mr. Wolfson, formally a principal with Mariani Energy Group's renewable energy technology and project metering/monitoring development effort. Greg is now a principal emeritus with Mariani Energy Group and remains part of our resource partners as an affiliate. Before joining MEG, Mr. Wolfson founded, Solar Alternatives, where he catalyzed the emergence of community-based solar energy projects and led the development of the largest solar power system in on California’s Central Coast.
Mr. Wolfson earned his BSEE from the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA, from the University of California at Berkeley.

Julie Cassel is financial analyst and real estate broker licensed in California.She is an integral member of a nationally and internationally prominent family with a 150-year history of investment in agri-business and real estate. Cassel has previously been part of the real estate brokerage firm of Marcus & Millichap, Thomsen & Null & Mariani Financial Company. She has had extensive experience with the Southern California and Texas real estate markets.
Her project management experience and her ability to blend her real estate background with renewable energy development is key to Mariani Capital Group & Mariani Energy Group. Ms. Cassel has an extensive network in the real estate industry and is known for her ability to structure complex acquisition and financing transactions. Ms. Cassel graduated from the University of Southern California, School of Business, is a licensed California Real Estate Broker and is a member of the National Association of Realtors.
